This giveaway is open to Worldwide!

When did you start getting into crafting, and what did you start with?
I've been making art since I was a toddler. My parents claim I was drawing at age 1! For a long time, I was into black felt-tip pens and large drawing pads, but by high school I was all oil paint, all the time.

Do you work outside of your Etsy shop? If so, how do you find time for both?
I don’t have what I call a ‘Capital J-o-b’, but aside from painting I am a stay-home-mom to my three-year-old daughter. I also have a serious distance-running addiction, which lures me away from the easel. To be honest, maintaining my Etsy shop is one of the least time consuming aspects of my craft. I spend way more time on the actual painting, packaging and shipping.

How did you learn about Etsy?
My sister Jessie (her shop) had an Etsy shop before I did, selling her plush creations. She convinced me to try it, and I was hooked!

When did you start your shop?
June 2008. Wow, that seems like a long time ago!

Where does your inspiration for your items come from?
My inspiration to paint still life is constantly renewed by seeing ordinary objects from my everyday life transform when they become part of a painting. There is a huge difference between a strawberry in a plastic carton in your fridge, and a strawberry arranged just so, and intensely focused on, in a painting.
Also, I spend a ton of time looking at other artists’ work online- on Etsy, on blogs, on Pinterest, on Facebook. There are seemingly endless resources these days for finding inspiration. When I was in college, the library was it. I would spend hours in the art book section of both my college and local city library. Come to think of it, I kind of miss those days….

Do you have advice for any shops just starting?
Once you get your shop up and running, it becomes much easier and faster to maintain. I remember feeling like the whole process was endless at the beginning, but it is 100% worth it. Etsy is an awesome community! Don’t get discouraged – even if you don’t sell anything at first. Stick with it, and try to find inspiration in other shops, teams, treasuries and forums.

Is there a certain item with a story behind it?
Every single one of my paintings represents a story to me. I can go through my Etsy shop and remember the time of day it was, even the season of the year when I painted each piece!

Do you have a Facebook fan page? Twitter? Blog?

Fun Questions to Get to Know You:

What is the furthest place you have traveled?
Israel. I did a painting-abroad trip there while I was in college. It was incredible.

Which bad habits of other people drive you crazy?
Lateness. Bad spelling and grammar. Leaving underwear on the floor.

What is your favorite food?
Cheese and crackers and wine! Also currently obsessed with coconut water.

Do you have any pets? If so what are their names?
I have two cats. Fredo and Bainers (don’t ask!).

If you could get back a lost item from your past, what would it be?
This question made me smile! It seems silly, but I once lost an entire box of kitchen stuff in a move during college. Nothing was valuable, but there were some mugs in the box that I’d made in ceramics classes in high school. I wish I still had those. And ten years later I still wake up in the middle of the night wondering what happened to that box.
