The other day my little munchkin suddenly started having giggle fits as he played in his tent, I had to take a picture real quick :)  A happy moment of relief as he is starting his "Terrible Twos" stage.

Giveaway! - Kaw! Studios (Ended)

Pin It

Another Thursday - Another Giveaway!

This weeks giveaway is from Kaw! Studios who is giving away a $50 shopping spree!

Read ahead to learn more about this talented student and animal lover, and see how to enter for your chance to win! This giveaway is open for WORLDWIDE participation!

When did you start getting into crafting, and what did you start with?
I've been into art & crafts for as long as I can remember. As a child I would draw a lot with everything, all over the place. It only continued as I got older.

Do you work outside of your Etsy shop? How do you find time for both?
I do. Outside of etsy I go to school, and work as a dog walker and pet sitter. My work schedule is busy but flexible, and so I work on my etsy shop when I can.

How did you learn about Etsy?
It was such a long time ago - but I think I learned about it through other artists who were setting up shops.

When did you start your shop?
I technically opened up my shop a few years ago, however I have only been seriously working on my shop since last year.

Where does your inspiration for your items come from?
Nature is by far my biggest inspiration :)

Is there a certain item with a story behind it?
Just about all of my portrait ACEOs are from a challenge where I created 29 faces throughout the month of February! It was a fun challenge, and I would love to try another daily challenge again some time.

Do you have advice for any shops just starting?
Do your research, and come prepared! There is a ton of valuable information on the web about setting up your shop and all of it is incredibly helpful. Learn about product photography, SEO, shipping, and customer service. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that you have to follow all of the rules - be sure to be yourself and make your own path - one that works for you.

Do you have a Facebook fan page? Blog?

Fun Questions to Get to Know You:

What is the furthest place you have traveled?
Unfortunately, I have never traveled outside of North America. Living in Florida, and on the East Coast for all of my life - the furthest I have traveled has been California. I'd love to see more of the West Coast, and perhaps live there some day!

Which bad habits of other people drive you crazy?
I have a friend who is ALWAYS late. It makes me so crazy! We go a lot of places together and I hate being late. I try really hard to be punctual, and it's frustrating when I am on time but I have to wait around for someone else.

Do you have any pets? If so what are their names?
Oh yes. I have 5. I have 3 dogs, a husky/eskimo (huskimo) mix named Sasha, 2 chihuahuas - named Antonio and Gizmo, a brown tabby cat named Jake, and a mali uromastyx lizard named Zeppelin.

What is your favorite food?
Right now I am completely enamored with Florida mangos! It's hard to choose a favorite food though, there is so much good stuff out there.

* What You Can Win *

Winner will receive a $50 Shopping spree!
This amount could stretch pretty far because my prices start as low as $2.40 for some of my up-cycled tags!

Crochet Loop Baby Toy

Pin It
Here is a great craft if you know how to crochet and have a little one too!
I found this over at Herbst Handmade's Blog!

Crochet Pattern - LOOP Baby Toy

Now that my littlest is almost four months old, I've been working on some fun, grabby baby toys. This is a cute one that I'm calling "loop". I've sold a handful in the shop. They are super-easy to make, so I've decided to post a little tutorial so you can make them for the little one's in your life. Enjoy!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"LOOP" - A Baby Rattle Grab Toy
by Amy Herbst
MATERIALS NEEDED:
-3.25 mm crochet hook
-Worsted weight yarn of your choice (here I've used Patons Classic Wool)
-1 or 2 small jingle bells (they just need to be small enough to fit in the large tube)
-Stuffing material
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Starting with the first small outer ring, chain 6.
- Slip stitch in the first chain you made to form a ring.
Stuff the tube lightly as you work
- Make 1 single crochet in each single crochet around until you have a little tube measuring 6 inches long.
-Bring the two ends of your 6" tube together to form a ring, stitch closed.
Repeat above instructions to make a total of two small rings.
For the large inner ring:
- Chain 12 (or 14, depending on your tension)--you want it to be nice and tight
- Slip stitch in the first chain you made to form a ring.
Stuff the tube firmly as you work, adding in a small jingle bell or two
- Make 1 single crochet in each single crochet (changing colors as desired) until you have a tube measuring 10.5 inches long.
- Slide the two small rings onto the large tube.
- Bring the ends of the large tube together to form a ring and stitch closed.
TA-DA! Easy-peasy. You just made a "Loop" baby toy!
Still Working On New Items
Pin It
Well I finally made 2 more animals for my shop that have been on my list of "Things to make".
A Horse, and Unicorn!
I added some butterfly embroidery to the Unicorn- I thought it made it more "girly", what do you think?
After making a few more of these to get more in my shop, my next items will be new rag dolls. I found a really cute mermaid rag doll pattern I'm eager to make!
Morning Fun
Pin It
Little man and I have started a morning routine of going to the playground and baseball fields in our housing community. He loves to run around the field and sometimes we bring his big red ball for him to kick around.
Here he is investigating the flowers  :)   Its a great way to start the day before it gets too hot. Plus it makes nap time go much smoother!
Giveaway! - Misanthropy Creations (Ended)
Pin It
Another Thursday - Another Giveaway!
This weeks giveaway is from Misanthropy Creations! Misanthropy Creations is giving away an adjustable little bow ring!
Read ahead to learn more about this crafty restaurant manager, and see how to enter for your chance to win! This giveaway is open for WORLDWIDE participation!
When did you start getting into crafting, and what did you start with?
I want to say that it all started by watching my mother and my grandmother crochet these intricate table cloths, bed spreads, and children clothes. My grandmother always offered to teach me what ever it was she was working on at the time. So I started with crocheting and simple sewing projects like sewing buttons, but it opened a door for me and realized that I have to create with my hands in order to feel fulfilled.
Do you work outside Etsy? How do you find time for both?
I'm a restaurant manager at 2 locations, working 50 to 60 hours a week. I come home, craft, sleep all day and repeat. I'm a night owl at heart. It's about 3 PM right now, and I'm still drinking my morning coffee!
How did you learn about Etsy?
I've been an Etsy customer for 5 years, soon after I found the site I opened a shop of my own. I've had a few different shops for different mediums since then but misanthropy creations is the one I'm carrying out to the end!
When did you start your shop?
I started misanthropy creations October 9th 2011. Since then I've had 53 sales to date but I am very proud of the success of my shop! It makes me feel so amazing that different people from different countries all over the world are purchasing my items, wearing them and loving them, because I put a lot of love and care to make each item special as well.
Where does your inspiration for your items come from?
I am a really big Science Fiction fan. I love to watch movies and read, so I would say that a major part of my inspiration comes from my love for sci-fi.
Is there a certain item with a story behind it?
Not specifically, but all my items are made with love and care and a little bit of magic.
Do you have advice for any shops just starting?
Read and learn! There are so many resources available to you. Etsy focuses on many different topics to help sellers and you can find many resources at your disposal by a simple internet search. Try to educate yourself as much as possible. Take great pictures and remember that patience is a virtue!
Do you have a Facebook fan page? Twitter? Blog?
Any other info you would like to share?
We don't know what the future will bring or what the truth really holds. Buying handmade opposed to buying from corporations is a movement that I am proud to be a part of. It's the best way to "stick it to the man".
Fun Questions to Get to Know You:
What is the furthest place you have traveled?
I am originally from Rhode Island but I have lived in SW Florida for almost 10 years now. I am of Portuguese/Brazilian decent and I have been to Portugal twice. I would love to visit Brazil as well one day.
Which bad habits of other people drive you crazy?
The way that common niceties have pretty much gone out the window. Saying please and thank you goes a long way, as does smiling. I like to surround myself with happy and kind people.
Do you have any pets? If so what are their names?
I do! Cheech is my 6 year old Chihuahua. He is a blue merle, so he is black, white and grey all over, like salt and pepper. Every time Cheech meets someone new he usually gets the same greeting, "Oh my god, I've never seen a Chihuahua like that before!" He certainly is one of a kind and holds a special place in my heart.
If you could get back a lost item from your past, what would it be?
Material items are not so important to me as people are. I lost my little sister in 2007 in a tragic car accident so I would prefer to have her back more than any item I have ever misplaced. She is very loved and missed.
What is your favorite food?
I love sushi, I wish I could eat it everyday! Mashed potatoes are also up there for me!
Craft Fair Coming Up!
Pin It
This past week I came across online news of a huge craft fair that is going to be on May 20th here in San Diego.  North Park Festival Of The Arts
It is pretty big and has about 30,000 people attending - so I thought to myself, "Heck yeah!"  So this next month I will be using what free time I have to get my stock built up. I also ordered a card reader for my I phone to take credit card payments. That is such a cool gadget!
I am hoping a great friend of mine will be able to join me in my booth. (Laurie if you are reading this... I mean YOU!) Yes, it will be a booth for Laurie & Laurie   :)
On May 1st I start some tests with the Neurologist. Its a mixture of feelings there. I don't want them to do tests and find nothing, but at the same time I am nervous as to what is going on.
Also in the next month Steven should get an idea on his orders as to where we will be moving when he is done with his IDC school. I am crossing my fingers that it is not Japan. It would be great to see another country, but my shop would be on hold while we are there. I don't think the added shipping costs would benefit much.
So all in all, May should be interesting.  :)
First Time In A Bouncy House
Pin It
Our housing community had a fun activity for the residents over the weekend. There were a couple of bouncy houses set up for the children. Since we got there at opening I thought it would be fun to let little man have a try before the older children got in.   :)
Daddy got in there to try and get him bouncing...
Little guy wasn't too crazy about it... and was happy to get out and have his shoes back on  :)
