More New Items

Well it has been a pretty busy week since last week's post. Munchkin man got a cold, poor little guy didn't sleep much for a couple of nights. Hubby had a 4 day weekend which was nice, got to spend some time together- especially since he will be gone for a while. He is starting clinicals and he starts by doing some of the time away on a ship. We are still waiting for our paper orders to confirm where we are moving to in August. I have been working on some new items in my free time (What's left of it!). I know I will be having more sewing time at night while Hubby is away for a while.

First new item: Cheetahs!
I made this after a custom order for a tiger. Hoping to get some tiger fleece soon to make some more tigers.

Second new item: Whales!
These were made after I bought the pattern for making a personalized whale for a baby gift who's room had an ocean theme.

If you haven't already, take a peek at my Facebook page where you can find links to a few different blogs featuring me with a chance to win $20 store credit with each!

Craft Fair

Earlier this week on Sunday I participated in the North Park Festival Of Arts! It was a full day, open from 10-6. My Hubby was amazing and woke up at 6 to help get everything there and set up with me!  :)

Here is my side in the canopy. I had more items in boxes under the table and also some stacked shelves in the back center. There were so many vendors with all sorts of talents!
I sold some items and gave out lots of cards to expecting parents. My favorite item sold was a recent horse I made, light blue with polka dots. A little girl was going to pick out a stuffed animal and when she saw it she grabbed it and ran out of the canopy! Her mom said she loves horses.  :)

I'm really happy with the way my banner turned out!
The best part, on this hot day my spot was right in front of a frozen yogurt shop on the street! I had chocolate custard flavor.... TWICE  :)

Giveaway! - The Pink Zebra Boutique (Ended)

Another Thursday - Another Giveaway!

This weeks giveaway is from The Pink Zebra Boutique who is giving away a Beautiful Red Rose Necklace and Ring set!

Read ahead to learn more about Melissa ans Sara, how they got started creating their beautiful pieces, and see how to enter for your chance to win!

This giveaway is open for USA only.

When did you start getting into crafting, and what did you start with?
We both have had creative minds since we were young & can remember doing craft projects in Vacation Bible School, Girl Scouts & during the summer when we had to take a break between watching TV & playing outside. Now that creativity expanded into decorating our homes, office spaces and our business. A few of the things we both remember doing were braiding multi-colored string for bracelets, melting crayons and other parts and fastening them onto blank barrettes, and painting rocks to sell to the neighbors (for a mere $.25)!

Do you work outside of your Etsy shop? If so, how do you find time for both?
Yes, we both have full-time jobs, which is actually how we met! Even though we are dedicated to our full-time jobs, we try to crunch in crafting and attending shows in the evenings and on the weekends. In a perfect world we would be able to do both with the same amount of effort but sometimes our everyday lives take over for weeks on end without having much time to focus on our business. But, that’s okay too! One thing that helps us is the fact that all of our products for sale on Etsy are ready to ship in order to provide the best customer service.

How did you learn about Etsy?
We stumbled upon Etsy when browsing the internet a few years ago and always admired what other people had in their shop

When did you start your shop?
Our Etsy shop was opened in May 2011 soon after we developed a concept and product line. However, most of our success has been with in person events.

Where does your inspiration for your items come from?
We both love jewelry, hair accessories and kids so we just tried to come up with things that we thought were cute or what we thought kids would like.

Is there a certain item with a story behind it?
Our cocktail rings were inspired by Megan Horsch of Kaylee Bug Design who gave us the inside scoop. However, we wanted to be able to make the flowers on our own without having to purchase from a supplier. So, we took many days to research and do trial runs with different products to come up with our flowers. After success with the rings, we decided to use the flowers with other items (earrings, bracelets and necklaces).

Do you have advice for any shops just starting?
Don’t get discouraged by not selling anything right away. Give it time and do your best to market your items. Good pictures help tremendously in gaining attraction from customers.

Do you have a Facebook fan page? Blog?

Fun Questions to Get to Know You:

What is the furthest place you have traveled?
Sara: Spain in high school
Melissa: Mexico in high school

Do you have any pets? If so what are their names?
Sara: 2 male cats, Tiger and Stripes who live with my parents (but I still consider them “mine”)
Melissa: Dog-Vizsla named Tucker. He’s my baby!!

What is your favorite food?
Sara: I have a favorite dish from a local restaurant which consists of penne pasta, chicken, pesto, spinach, tomatoes and feta…delicious! But even more delectable with a glass of Moscato!
Melissa: I go crazy for fresh pineapple!!

Mon Cheri (Cookies)

If you enjoy baking and decorating, then you are going to love this blog I found these cookies on.
Bake at 350 has SO many fun, beautiful, and creative ideas! If you enjoy this post, you will be amazed at the rest of their tutorials and ideas!

                      Mon Cheri

These are quite possibly the easiest decorated cookies ever.

They start with these:
Do you know what they are?  I didn't.  I thought they were giant nonpareils.
They are actually "sixlets" and are CHOCOLATE!  Chocolate, people

I kind of have a thing for cherries.  Maybe it's because I worked for
Mary Engelbreit before kiddo came along.  Mary is the QUEEN of cherries,
in case you didn't know. ;)

You might have seen the bowl of cherries looming in the background in, oh,
almost all of my pictures.

The cherries are fake....plastic, and I'll admit, dusty....but that doesn't stop
people from trying to eat them when they sit at our kitchen table.

Don't even get me started on the cherry sours from the Sample House
in Dallas.

{If you live in Dallas, get in your car RIGHT NOW and go get some.  You
need them.  Really.}

OK, back to the cherry cookies.  You will need:

  • chocolate square cookies (this chocolate cookie is actually for a super,
secret, special project I'm working on...more on that later.
    Until then, use this one.)
  • royal icing, divided and tinted with AmeriColor Bright White and Leaf Green
  • disposable icing bags (2)
  • couplers
  • tips: #2 & #1
  • toothpicks
  • red sixlets

Using a #2 tip, outline the cookies in white.

Thin the white icing to the consistency of a thick syrup. Cover with a damp
dish towel and let sit for several minutes.  Stir gently with a silicone spatula
and transfer to a squeeze bottle.

Flood the cookies with the thinned icing.  Use a toothpick to guide into corners.

While the icing is still wet, add the sixlets.

Let the icing dry for at least 30 minutes, then add stems, leaves, and dots in
green icing with a #1 tip.

Let the cookies dry 6-8 hours or overnight.

That's it! :) Now how about a cookie, mon cheri?

Moving In August

When we moved here to here in San Diego last July, we knew that more than likely we would be moving again the following August. A few weeks ago there was talk about my Husband Steven getting orders to somewhere not too far from here, just a few hours north. Now that has changed... where will we be moving?

Hawaii! He doesn't have the official orders in hand yet, but his boss already told him that he has the spot. Steven just finished his week long test and passed, so now he has a few rotations of clinicals to do. It is exciting to know we will be moving there, though as a Mother of a 20 month old I do fear the plane ride and just hope we can make it a night flight if possible. Little Steven has a hard time sitting still and is starting his tantrum stage.

I did live in Hawaii for a few years while I was in elementary school and my Father was in the Army. It will be nice to return and experience more as an adult living there. I do remember some things from living there as a child.... like this fish. It is the Hawaiian state fish: Humuhumunukunukuapua'a. It was on a spelling test! It's name translates to "fish with a pig like snout'.

If we do go to Hawaii, the downside for me would be my Etsy shop. I will have to put it on hold again, this time would more than likely be a month minimum with the move and waiting on housing. I am sure with hard work I can get my steady flow of traffic back though  :)  Custom orders have been coming steady... must be baby season!

*So in July look for another moving sale! *
